How do I get my driver's licence?
Pass the road test with a VID examiner and pay the production fee. For a car that is US$25 for the test plus US$15 on passing.
In person
- VID Bulawayo depot
Book and sit the road test here. Street address not confirmed; call ahead.
- Central Vehicle Registry enrolment, Bulawayo
The plastic licence is produced through CVR. An enrolment centre opened in Bulawayo in November 2024, so you should not need to travel to Harare for it.
What you need
- The road test fee, by class: US$25 for a car or motorcycle (codes A or B), US$30 for codes D1, D1E, C1, C1E or R, US$40 for heavies (codes C, CE, D or DE).
- A production fee of US$15 on passing, for any class.
- All of these may be paid in local currency at the interbank rate of the day. The examiner must give you a receipt.
- The plastic licence lasts five years and renewal needs a vision test, not another road test.
- If you are converting a foreign licence instead, that is US$100. An urgent licence is US$50 and a duplicate is US$15.
